SPURS is designed to prevent nets, ropes or other pollution from wrapping around the shaft and damaging the joints.
The rotational effect given by a moving propeller irreparably drives the nets and ropes that it catches towards the stern tube, creates a tightening and sliding which damages all the joints and causes, at least, leaks or structural damage, immobilizing the ship.
